In the final seconds, unbridled joy erupted for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and handed the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the home bench stood the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, stood a one-time trainer at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being seconded from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed Mission: Impossible.

Another key part of his blueprint was to disrupt at every turn. Jeers rang out whenever Chelsea delayed at a dead ball, a sure sign the hosts' rhythm was being disrupted and the Guardiola plan was being thwarted.
